Book Review | With Ties That Bind by Trisha Wolfe!!

Title: With Ties That Bind
Author: Trisha Wolfe
Release Date: February 29th 2016

GoodReads Blurb:

This series is a spinoff of the Broken Bonds serial which must be read prior to beginning this first book. Contains spoilers to the Broken Bonds serial.

Detective Ethan Quinn has questions. The Arlington Slasher case is closed, the UNSUB no longer a threat—but Quinn can’t quiet the suspicion he harbors toward his partner and the young, attractive M.E. Not only does he loathe his uncertainty, he’s torn between doing his job and protecting his team.

But burying himself in cases no longer works. He’s restless. On edge. And tired of fighting his compulsions. Quinn has always viewed the law in black and white. Only now his world is swirling with a murky gray that threatens to devour him.

When lead medical examiner Avery Johnson careens toward a dangerous path, she pulls the unwitting detective into a dark web of deception and lust, triggered by a spree of recent killings.

Is this new player linked to the Bathory murders, or is it another copycat?

Time almost took Avery from him once before. As the clock ticks, Quinn will stop at nothing to protect her, refusing to let Avery become a victim again. Against his uncompromising logic, Quinn can’t deny his feelings. Avery forces him to acknowledge his darker desires, tempting his control—which weakens with every second he spends with the feisty M.E. as they hunt down the perpetrator threatening to tear them apart.

Review:

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Whenever I first start out writing a review of one of Trisha's books I feel utterly at a loss for words. I always end up finding them but starting out is very difficult. (Just like when I write a book. Hmmm.)

While reading Trisha's With Visions of Red series I always really liked Detective Ethan Quinn. I loved when I got to read about him so to hear that Trisha was doing a spin off series that would focus on Quinn and Avery definitely got me very excited. I also always had the suspicion that Quinn was super sexy. ;)

It took me much longer than I would have liked to read this. While reading I was also editing and it had pretty much taken over my life. So it wasn't because I didn't enjoy the book. I was really enjoying the book. Sneaking time to read whenever I could. Five minutes here, ten there. And then once I got to the 80% mark I pretty much just didn't stop. I stayed up too late that night to finish the book. I just couldn't stop reading.

The tension between Avery and Quinn was easy to see and feel from the page. When some of that tension is finally broken you can tell how much they wanted each other. Trisha definitely knows how to write a hot scene. But more then that, make the reader feel that these characters feel something for each other more than just physical attraction. It was obvious how much Quinn cares about Avery. How desperate he is to protect her. She's a tough lady and says more than once that she doesn't need his protection but that isn't going to stop him from looking out for her.

I was also excited to see Sadie in this book a lot. I love Sadie. She is one of my favorite characters. I can't go too much into some of the things I loved about it (spoilers) but I did love it. I also loved the friendship that her and Avery had formed. It's great to see two strong women. And, of course, when Colton made an appearance (or when Sadie mentioned him) I all but jumped out of my seat for joy.

In her last series, Trisha periodically had chapters from the Unsub's POV. In this book that didn't happen until the end. As usual, she had me just as enthralled reading their POV. I don't have nearly enough information to take a guess as to who it is yet but that won't stop me from trying. Even now, I'm going over all of his idiosyncrasies, speech patterns, et cetera. One particular thing that he did I found interesting. (It also reminded me of a fictional character I'm totally in love with that I'd rather not be reminded of when reading about this Unsub, Trisha!! lol)

Overall, this book was amazing. I loved it. Beautifully written, suspenseful, beautiful characters. I can't wait to see what happens next. 5 quills!!
