Book Blitz ~ Redeeming Lainey by Kaitlyn Hoyt

Redeeming Lainey
Release Date: 07/18/14

Summary from Goodreads:
When Lainey left the little farming town in Iowa on her eighteenth birthday, she thought she was finally free. She didn’t have to live in fear anymore wondering which day was going to be her last. For those two years, she was able to live in peace. She’d made a new friend, was going to a school she loved, and was setting the path for her future career.

That all changed with one phone call from her mother.

With the push of her best friend, Randi, Lainey goes back into the town she once promised was forever in her rear-view mirror. The dark memories of her past loom around every corner, and Lainey can’t seem to conquer the demons inside of her in order to fully move on.

Bryce, on the other hand, had moved on. During middle school and high school, Lainey was his best friend, and it tore him apart when she left with only a note. A simple note saying good-bye and have a great life.

Without his best friend around, Bryce’s life quickly spiraled out of control. He got into drugs, had some trouble with the law, and found himself partying a little too hard. Sweet Annabeth brought him out of that stage in his life, and ultimately saved his life.

With Lainey back in town, Bryce is at a loss at what do. She wants nothing to do with him or the town, but he is the only person who knows her full history and may be able to help her. Knowing that Lainey’s a flight risk, and with one wrong move, she’d pack everything up and leave again, Bryce steps out to help her find the one thing she doesn’t know she needs.

Available From:

I can’t believe I’m back here. I can still turn around and leave. There’s still time.

Despite all these thoughts running through my mind, I don’t turn around. I keep moving forward. I keep walking toward my mom’s house. That building is no longer my home. In fact, I don’t think it ever was my home. A home is a place where you’re supposed to feel comfortable. You’re supposed to want to go back there at the end of the day. That house was not my home. It was a place I had to go to after school because I was under eighteen and by state laws, I was a minor.

I couldn’t think, feel, act, or speak on my own. I wasn’t in control of my life. Now I am. Now I’m free. I’m a free person returning to purgatory. Any sane person would turn around and walk away. They’d never look back. They would put the past behind them and move on. The only positive thing about this situation is that Lucifer no longer reigns. All that is left in the house is an angel with broken wings.

“Five stars... Perfect writing, perfect characters … perfect plot.” -- Paperback Wonderland

“Dream Boy skillfully and creatively tackles the common theme of good and bad dreams coming alive.... The writing is tight and well-paced, and nicely balances action with Annabelle’s character development as she tries to unravel the mysteries of... her dreams. Her teenage voice is spot on: unsure of herself, but spirited, with a sarcasm that masquerades as confidence. The plot twists and moves in unexpected yet fascinating directions." -- The Roanoke Times

I’ve always been a dreamer. Daydreams. Night dreams. Dreams of grandeur and dreams of escape. If I were an onion and you peeled back the papery outside, you’d find layer after layer of eye-watering dreams. And in the center, where there’s that little curlicue of onion heart? There’d be a puff of smoke from the dreams that burned away.

It was all just brain waves, I thought—disconnected, like the notebook that my friend Talon keeps. She draws a line down the middle of the page; on the right she writes everything she remembers about a dream, and on the left she puts notes about the stuff that’s happening in real life, things that might trigger her subconscious. Reality on one side, dreams on the other—a clear line between the two.

But it turns out there are no clear lines, just a jumble of what is and what might be. And all of it is real.

Available now:

Jill clicked off the phone and exhaled loudly, shaking her head.
“What was that all about?” Trevor came back  into  the room  and  dropped  into  the chair across from her. He had a pint of ice cream in his hand. “Is she upset because Matt is marrying Amanda? Doesn’t she like her?”
“No, it’s not that,  really,” Jill replied, gazing  out  the  window.  A  smudge  of  moonlight was barely visible in the night time sky above the buildings across the street. “Rory doesn’t even know Amanda. They’ve never met. She’s just upset Matt is getting  married, period. There’s a  long history there, you know. Once upon a time... well, they were pretty close. They were best friends, each other’s first loves, you name it.”
Trevor always tried to play it off like he was barely interested in gossip, above it all even, but when they were alone he definitely took a sort of conspiratorial delight in getting the scoop on  Jill’s  small  hometown  crowd. He  himself had never  experienced  just  how  tight  some childhood ties could bind.
“I guess I recall you telling me that.” Swallowing a mouthful of ice cream, hefrowned. “So, is she just jealous he found someone else? Or does she still have feelings for him?”
“Who knows?” Jill replied with another yawn, propping her elbow on the back of the couch to rest her head in her hand. “Rory Finn is a very complicated girl. Believe me, she makes me look easy.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t talk about how easy you look, love,” he murmured as he dug his spoon in, trying to hide a grin, “when you’re sitting there all knocked up.”
“Give me that ice cream and I just might forget you said that.”
